Jurni, a Pitbull rescued by the SPCA ( Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) of Northeastern North Carolina, lived with a family for a few years. But sadly, they never took care of her. They just chained her inside the yard and used her to keep intruders from getting inside their house.
Soon, Jurni ended up on the streets. It wasn’t certain how but she was either let loose or she escaped and wandered around until the rescuers found her. She was in the worst state and she needed someone really special to rehabilitate her.
The SPCA of Northeastern North Carolina got in contact with Carly, one of their volunteer fosters, and she did not hesitate to help. She was aware that her task wouldn’t be easy but she knew she could do it. She believed that all Jurni needed was love and it was something she surely can provide.
Jurni was scrawny so she spent the first 4 weeks packing on pounds. She wagged her tail so fast every mealtime because she was so happy that she had something to eat. She knew that she would never starve again.
The dog wasn’t so sure about so many things. She wasn’t even certain about herself. She didn’t want to leave the porch at first and she brawled when she wore a leash the first time. With everything being new, she felt so confused and terrified.
Among the things that Jurney feared the most were squeaky toys. She hated the noise they made and she cowered in a corner whenever she heard them. But when she saw her foster dog siblings play with them, she gave them a shot and she ended up loving them. Everywhere she went, she carried one with her.
Before long, it was time for Jurney to find her forever family. Everyone thought her search was over even before it started. But while Carly wanted to keep her, there was someone who was a better fit, a gentleman named Gabriel.
Gabriel learned about Jurney on social media and he loved her right from the beginning. He gave her a new life and renamed her Bernie, and together, they started fresh. They hit it off right away because they were meant to be together.
