The last thing dog lovers want is for their pups to go missing. However, it would be much worse if pups entrusted to you by other people went missing under your care. That’s exactly what happened to Sunni Liston, a dog daycare owner.
Every week, Sunni sets aside three days for the pups’ family to pick them up in a set location. She has two big vans, each with 13 kennels. On the days her customers are to take the pups back, Sunni would usually park her van in downtown Portland and wait for the fur parents to pick up their pups. Every time a pup’s family came, she would get out of the van to unload the pup. However, one day, her greatest nightmare happened.
After unloading a pup, Sunni noticed that the van was moving. She ran to the side of the driver’s seat and saw a man inside. She pounded on the window, but the thief ignored her and even drove over her foot before driving away.
Eleven pups, including Sunni’s own pup, were in the van. She had also left her purse and phone in the van, so she frantically asked the people around her to call the emergency hotline. Fortunately, many people were more than willing to help.
Sunni’s employees tracked down her phone and located it in a parking area. One of them contacted a friend who lives near the parking area to help block the exit until the police officers arrived. Although the police rushed to the scene, the thief had already escaped by the time they got there. Thankfully, all the pups were safe and still inside the van.
Sunni was relieved upon hearing the news that the pups were found safe. Her credit card and cash were stolen, but she couldn’t care less. What matters is that the pups, including her fur baby, were back to their loving families.
