In China, there are millions of homeless dogs across the country – there are also dogs who are constantly hungry, neglected, abused, and exploited.
China’s situation, in retrospect, is no different from other parts of the world. Issues on animal welfare happen everywhere.
While we acknowledge that we cannot save all dogs, there are still people who try to make the world better for our beloved canines. Case in point, five women, all senior citizens, tirelessly take care of more than a thousand stray dogs.
Wang Yanfang and four of her friends may be over 60 years old, but age will not stop them from doing what they are passionate about. They wake up at 4:00 in the morning every single day to feed 1300 dogs.
All of these canines live at the shelter located in central Shaanxi Province that Yanfang founded in 2009. She asked permission to open on after she felt so much sympathy for all the animals that are taken away by regulators.
Eventually, Yangfang’s friends started supporting her advocacy. She relies on donations from generous, like-minded animal lovers to keep the shelter alive.
Feeding 1300 dogs alone every single day is no easy task. They need to prepare 880 pounds of food to provide each one of them.
The dogs are not the friendliest. It doesn’t make it any easier. They get occasional nips and bites from them, but that didn’t stop them from doing what they have to do.
As feeding them is just part of the task. Yanfang and her team also don’t forget to provide them with lots of love and affection.
They are also more than willing to devote their time to each of them, even during New Year.
These superwomen may be over 60, but age has got nothing on them!
This story of Yangfang and her friends is not just a story of commitment, love, and dedication. Their story is proof that anyone is capable of loving – regardless of age, gender, economic status, and origin.
