When Lee Asher of The Asher House first brought home a Beagle named Poppy, he knew he had his work really cut out for him. The dog was terrified of everything – loud noises, people, other dogs, and even herself. It seemed like nothing could calm her down.
Poppy met Lee Asher, the founder of The Asher House, a non-profit sanctuary in Escada, Oregon, during one of his many trips. Lee provides abandoned and unwanted animals a home, plenty of love, and a family to call their own.
During the car ride home, Poppy whimpered and just wanted to stay as close to her rescuer as she could. When they arrived at The Asher house, Poppy saw the other dogs and felt terrified all over again.
Lee knew Poppy’s journey to trusting humans again will be a tough one, so he did what he did with all the other dogs in the house. He gave her patience, time, space, and all the love he could give.
First, Lee gave Poppy a warm bath. Then, he patted her dry and left her inside a kennel where she could accustom herself to her surroundings. Then, he began to introduce her to all the other dogs.
For the first few days, Poppy was extremely scared. She must have realized that her furry companions were no threat as she began to come out of her shell.
Poppy is now a happy dog who loves to play and cuddle with everyone she meets. She also loves going on dog walks with her foster siblings.
They’d go for nature hikes and watch beautiful sunsets together, which this Beagle found wonderful. Now, Poppy has a family to call her own, and she would not have it any other way.
Well done, Lee, and continue being happy, Poppy!
