Before the beagle, Boone, became part of Tanya and Charlie Diable’s family, he had suffered a life of abuse. His previous owners cruelly cut his hind legs off at six weeks old, making it difficult for him to walk around. Fortunately, the couple rescued him from his horrid situation and gave him the life he deserved.
They showered Boone with love and care and even got him a custom two-wheeled wheelchair to help him move freely around their home. Before long, the beagle began to transform into his old, happy self and regained his previously lost confidence. That was when Tanya discovered that he had the potential to be a therapy dog.
Hoping that Boone would be up to the task, the couple decided to enroll him in a three-month therapy dog course in Pittsburgh in 2019. Needless to say, the pup was a natural at this job and immediately became a fan favorite when he began volunteering at the Pittsburgh International Airport, some local schools, and a local children’s hospital.
Tanya loved that Boone was able to show his resilience to people, considering that he had been through a lot. So to spread the pup’s story of hope across the globe, the fur mom went on and published a children’s book featuring the beagle and the struggles he faced in life.
“Bow Tie Boone” was launched on Amazon in November and had since received positive reviews on the platform. Tanya shared that the proceeds of the sale would go to Joey’s P.A.W. (Prosthetics and Wheels), a nonprofit charity she and her husband founded in 2017.
Joey’s P.A.W. provides wheelchairs and prosthetics to injured rescue dogs to make them more attractive to potential adopters. To date, the charity had already awarded over 700 prosthetics and wheelchairs to pups in need not only in Pittsburgh but also in Australia, Honduras, Saudi Arabia, and the Philippines.
With Boone’s book, Tanya and Charlie hope to buy more prosthetics and wheelchairs for other dogs. Look at the adorable beagle and his book here.
