A deaf and partially blind Great Dane found unconditional love and lasting friendship with a 17-month-old toddler.
Before Echo ended up at her current loving family, her life was almost cut short. Because of her disabilities, her previous owner wanted to put her down.
But thankfully, someone got in the way and rescued Echo. Marion Dwyer, a 33-year-old woman who has a heart for animals, thought that Echo deserves to live despite her disabilities. She is, after all, a perfectly healthy dog.
In a heartbreaking post, Marion even wrote an open letter to Echo’s former owner. Her words were full of so much hurt because of how they treated her in the past. But she proudly shares that Echo is now happier, safer, and better.
It seems that Marion was right about Echo because the once unloved pup gives back all the love she’s getting from her through her little daughter, Jennie.
Even before Jennie was born, Echo loves to snuggle to Marion’s baby bump. And when the baby was born, Echo assumed the role of protector.
Since Jennie’s birth, Echo was always on the lookout for her. If a stranger approaches them, Echo will put herself in front of the baby, so the stranger gets to pet her first.
But she does it in such a peaceful manner. She wants her to human to be safe.
In return, Jennie, even as a toddler, loves to walk Echo around. Her slower pace than her mother makes it advantageous for Echo because it means that she can watch people and sniff everything.
The two also learned to communicate with each other through sign language through Marion. For instance, when she wants Echo to come to her, she waves. She also knows how to give her a treat.
As for Marion, she learned to loved Great Danes more because of Echo. So she ended up adopting two more female Great Danes, so Echo has company.
But seeing her daughter and her adopted canine, she knows that no one else can replace their bond. What can we say? These two are undoubtedly a perfect team!
