It was a typical workday for Vitisak. He took a walk around the platform and saw a dog, a hundred and thirty-five miles away from the shore, holding on to rocks. He was determined to look for ways to help save the dog, Boonrod.
Dog out of water
Vitisak works offshore at the gulf of Thailand. It was a shock for him to see a dog holding onto the side of the platform.
Boonrod looked at Vitisak with such weary eyes that could melt anyone’s heart. Vitisak then called one of his co-workers to get a rope and help him save the dog.
They struggled to lift the dog carefully to the platform. It saddened both Vitisak and his colleague to see Boonrod look so exhausted. No one knew how long the dog was waiting to be rescued.
Everyone working that day was excited to see they had company. They all treated Boonrod like a special guest.
Vitisak gave the dog some water and left him to rest. One of Vitisak’s colleagues suggested that the dog might have slipped off of a fishing boat or swam from the shore.
Boonrod struggled to walk for a while. Vitisak encouraged the dog and even massaged the dog’s legs. After a few minutes, the dog began walking and playing with everyone.
The dog stayed with Vitisak on the platform for two more days. When those days were up, Vitisak sent him to shore by boat.
A local organization was there to pick the dog up. They took Boonrod to an animal hospital to heal.
Forever home
Vitisak still had to work for ten more days. He thought of Boonrod every day, wondering how the dog was feeling.
After ten days, Vitisak headed off to shore to pick Boonrod up. He had a plan to adopt the dog.
Vitisak asked the rescue if anybody had identified Boonrod’s owners. He told them that he would prefer to take the dog to his home.
Nobody claimed ownership for the dog. Vitisak and Boonrod loved each other. They quickly formed a bond and lived happily together.
