Dogs get illnesses similar to humans. They can get kidney problems, heart disease, and worse, cancer. Dogs do have a high chance of survival when the disease is detected in its early stages.
Dogs are also incredible fighters. When they are sick, they pretend that they’re okay, especially in front of their owners. Dogs do not want their owners to be worried about their condition.
Murphy, a 3-year-old German Shepherd mix, is an adopted dog from Centre County PAWS. It took 600 days before he found his forever home. While Murphy was at the shelter, he had a difficult time getting along with other dogs at the shelter. He did not want to mingle with other dogs.
Volunteers at the shelter helped and trained Murphy to become a friendly dog. He changed his behavior, and soon enough, he was able to find his forever family.
Murphy became a well-behaved and energetic dog. He loves meeting new people and is friendly towards them.
The sweet pup is also showered with love and care by his adoptive family. He sleeps with them on the bed and he also goes on adventures with the family. He is one lucky dog!
Life was good for Murphy until he was diagnosed with cancer. There was a need to cut-off his left hind leg so that the cancer cells wouldn’t spread in his body.
Recovery after the surgery was a bit difficult for Murphy. At first, he tried walking for a few steps with his three remaining legs. He was slow because he feared that he might fall.
Later on, he gained confidence in using his three legs. Murphy is back to his old self again!
He confidently runs with his three legs. He continued to be a playful dog, and his love for adventure never faded away.
The love and support from his family are his sources of strength and courage to fight the disease.
More adventures for you, Murphy!
