Elmo, a character from kid’s TV show Sesame Street, helped a rescued puppy find a forever family.
The TV character visited a shelter to observe and socialize with many animals that were staying there. While he there, he developed an interest in a beagle named Theo. The puppy wasn’t feeling well at that moment, but Elmo played a significant role in making him feel better.
Elmo followed a checklist of things that would make Theo happy. First, he ensured that the dog received ample exercise. He also gave Theo some toys to prevent him from becoming bored. Finally, Elmo made certain to shower Theo with affection.
Elmo also soon identified a family that was the ideal adoptive parents for Theo. This family’s seven-year-old son, Lucas, desperately desired a dog.
When Theo and Lucas first met, there was an instant connection, and they formed a strong friendship.
When it came to Theo’s adoption, no deliberation was necessary. He was adopted immediately after meeting the family. Lucas enthusiastically showed Theo about the house and made him feel at home.
Elmo gave Theo a gift before they had to part ways. Theo enjoyed gnawing on the shoe-shaped chew toy he was gifted. This toy would prevent him from chewing on shoes that were in the house.
A few weeks later, Elmo received a note from Lucas. It was a report on how Theo was adjusting to his new life with his forever family. Lucas said that he had already taught Theo how to follow the sit command, among other skills. The child also shared with Elmo his desire for the other canines in the shelter to find loving homes similar to Theo’s.
Thank you, Elmo, for not just making our childhood better, but also for helping Theo and other rescue dogs a forever home.
