Gus was an abused dog abandoned by his owners and left to fend for himself. By the time someone saw him, his head was already swollen, and his body was skinny and frail.
A photo of the pooch was taken and posted on Facebook. Fortunately for the dog, a group of animal activists saw the post and vowed to find him.
According to the post, Gus was wandering around an apartment complex located in the Southeast Houston area. So the group of friends scoured the placed and spent hours looking for the poor pooch. Just as when they were about to call it a day, they came across an abandoned room enclosed by a metal gate.
A foul smell attracted their attention, and from out of the shadows, Gus emerged.
Abused
Just as they feared, the dog’s condition seemed to have gotten worse. His head had grown even bigger, and his bones were sticking out of his body. He was also very skittish, which the group understood. The pup looked like it had gone through much abuse.
When they finally got the pooch, they took him to the local rescue. A vet immediately took care of him. The dog’s head ballooned because a shoelace was tied around his neck. Blood and other fluids were trapped in his swollen head.
The shoelace was tied so tight that some of his vessels got blocked, and he had a deep gash encircling his neck. To top it off, 25 BB pellets were found inside his body.
A new home
A nonprofit rescue group called Houston K-911 Rescue helped Gus get the additional treatments he needed. He repeatedly went back to the clinic and saw multiple specialists to have his different injuries fixed. Thankfully, everything went fine.
After a long recovery, while staying in a foster home, the founder of Houston K-911 Rescue fell in love with Gus and took him in. The transformed dog is now happier and healthier. He has had an amazing transformation and lives a life full of love and safety.
