Porkie, a 10-year-old stray, was prepared to give up on life. The poor girl was frequently bullied because she was an older dog.
The neighborhood youngsters were cruel to Porkie but a rescue group called Sidewalk Specials saw her true beauty. The pup was saved from a life of suffering and she soon gained the confidence and strength to continue living.
Rescued pup
Porkie was discovered hunched under a bush in De Doorns, South Africa. The stray was frequently bullied so she was very cautious to trust humans.
The dog shook and stayed stiff when one of the rescuers picked her up. However, the people from the rescue group were compassionate and proved that humans were kind.
Porkie was already pregnant before they brought her in. If she hadn’t been saved, her health issues would worsen and her newborn puppies might not have survived.
The dog had a major eye injury, tick bite illness, and her molars had been worn down from eating stones. She had a hard time adjusting, but Sidewalk Specials knew she had genuine potential and knew they couldn’t give up on her.
The rescuers pledged to transfer Porkie to a safe and comfortable environment. Trained vets attended to her medical needs and performed eye surgery on her. During her treatment, the rescue group appealed to other dog lovers to chip in to fund her vet fees.
Back to life
Sidewalk Specials wanted to prove that Porkie wasn’t a lost cause. After the long recovery process, they sent her to the perfect retirement home.
Porkie was adopted by a caring family from Cape Town, South Africa. The senior dog was finally able to experience being a puppy again in the safety of a loving household.
The dog’s new family recorded her jumping around the home with her tail wagging frantically. She gets giddy whenever she got to go for walks or whenever she got hugged.
Porkie’s experience was just one of many that showed how adopting a shelter dog can change a canine’s life. Senior dogs arevery appreciative, and more households should consider adopting them.
