It’s surprising to know that dogs have a good sense of smell and memory. Even if a particular place or smell is a few miles away, the dog can still remember and find a way to go to that place or scent.
One dog was able to find her way back to her old home despite living in her new home for two years now. What’s more surprising was that her old home was in the neighboring state!
Cleo, a four-year-old yellow Labrador, left her human family in Kansas. She was found a week later at their previous home 57 miles away in Missouri.
Britney Michael and her husband Colton purchased the Lawson, Missouri home in 2018. She was surprised to see a dog without a collar lying on the front porch, looking comfortable. She and her husband immediately knew that the dog wasn’t a stray because she looked well-groomed. Britney tried to shoo away the dog, but it seemed that the dog didn’t have plans of leaving.
Instead, Britney and Colton earned the dog’s trust so that they could bring her to the nearest vet for a medical check and microchip scan. Thankfully, the dog had a microchip. Britney and Colton immediately recognized the dog’s owners after seeing the dog’s details from the microchip scan. They were the ones who sold the Lawson, Missouri home before they moved to Olathe, Kansas.
Britney looked for the owner on Facebook where she also learned that the dog was already missing for a week.
It was a mystery how Cleo was able to find her way going back to Missouri. She crossed state boundaries, busy highways, and a river to get there.
Drew, Cleo’s owner, was happy to know that she was safe. She picked her up at their old Missouri home to thank the new homeowners for taking care of their sweet dog.
