When a pup named Maximus joined the Mellstrom family, he was so small that he could almost fit in their palm. However, the Great Dane did not stay that small for long.
Now, at three years old and weighing almost 200 pounds, Maximus thinks he’s just as big as his Pomeranian sister named Dahlia. According to Ashlyn Mellstrom, the dogs’ fur mom, Maximus does not realize how big he is. She also said that he and Dahlia always cause trouble together.
Among the family’s four dogs, Maximus is the biggest but the youngest. When he first arrived at the house, not all the dogs were happy about sharing their parents’ attention.
Maximus’s two other siblings, Charlie and Cheyenne were not 100% sold on him right away. Until now, Cheyenne is not very much thrilled about him and does not like anyone else taking her fur dad’s attention away from her.
On the other hand, Charlie has already accepted Max into their family, just as long as he does not disturb his naps. However, Dahlia is Max’s best friend. They were approximately the same size when Max joined the family. And now that Max is much bigger than her, they still always play and wrestle with each other.
To record Max’s growth spurt, her fur mom started taking photos of her dogs weekly. Fortunately, her other dogs are experts at sitting still and posing for the camera, especially with treats present, and the youngest pooch quickly caught on.
When Ashlyn got Max, the fur mom immediately knew she had to take growth photos. She said she was a bit obsessed with seeing some changes every week. During photoshoots, all the dogs have to sit, which can be quite a struggle on some days. And once all the dogs are lined up, the fur mom would yell some silly words to get them to look, and then she would take the opportunity to snap lots of photos.
Although Max is such a big boy now, no one in the family holds his size against him. Each of them surely has a unique appearance and personality, but what’s important is that they belong to the same family.
