A Pomeranian mix was left behind by his homeless owner. Since then, he had been staying at the park. A construction worker who had been feeding him pointed him out to Eldad Hagar and Loreta Frankonyte, a team from a rescue organization called Hope For Paws.
The dog tried to run, but he could not go very far because he was obese, and the temperature was about 100 degrees. Eldad managed to catch him with the snappy snare. They decided to name him Garfield because it seemed fitting for him.
While talking to him in gentle tones, he put a leash on him and tried to encourage him to walk. The dog protested against walking, so Eldad tried to pick him up. He did not want to be picked up either. Eldad had to tug on the leash to get him to walk.
Garfield was struggling to walk, and they knew that he would not be able to make it to their car. Eldad got the cage on a platform with wheels. They were able to transport Garfield back to the car without having to carry him.
After a relaxing bath, Garfield had his health checked. He spent a few months in medical care and rehab then Balooja’s Foundation took him in for foster care. They turned him over to Cheryl Gullstrand, an experienced foster mom.
Garfield’s foster family discovered that he loved playing with toys. They used toys to encourage him to run so that he could have exercise and achieve his ideal weight. Aside from his physical health issue, Cheryl also helped him deal with his trust issues. By the time he was ready to be adopted, he became friendly with humans and other animals.
It did not take long before Garfield was adopted by a kind woman named Deanna. He was so contented and at peace with his new family.
