Having to let go of your loved one is very difficult and heartbreaking. But sometimes, we have to make this decision as it is what is best for them. As in a lot of cases, the right choice is the most difficult to make.
Ryan Hamilton had to make this decision when he lost his job and his home in Tama Bay. He had to surrender his dog, Dakota. He absolutely adored his pet pooch and would have done anything to keep him. But at that moment, no matter how he tried, he just didn’t have the means or resources to care for her.
So he gave her up.
 I love you, goodbye
Society was in a pandemic and like a lot of people, Ryan lost his job. He didn’t get any salary and when his savings dried out, he was kicked out of his home. That meant that he couldn’t provide shelter for Dakota, and also give him food and medication for heartworms.
After doing some research and ensuring that his dog would be safe, he turned to the Tampa Bay Humane Society for help. At first, he requested his dog’s stay to be a temporary one. He was trying to get a job fast so that he can get his dog back right away. The organization agreed, but only for a week.
After five days without any success, Ryan returned and had to fully surrender his dog. This meant that if someone came and adopted the dog, there was a chance that they could take Dakota home with them.
Reunited
Ryan’s luck changed after a few weeks. he was able to get a job and find a new home. When he was finally stable, the first thing that he did was to check if Dakota was still in the shelter. He had his doubts, Dakota was a very sociable and lovable dog, some family might have taken her in already.
But to his surprise, his dog was still there. Even the shelter staff was amazed. They have already fallen in love with the dog and her sweet personality. They couldn’t believe that nobody adopted her. But fate had other plans.
Ryan and his dog have reunited again and everyone was happy. Dakota ran to his owner’s arms the moment she saw him. No eye was dry during that heartfelt moment.
To help Ryan and his dog, the organization gave them six months’ worth of medication for Dakota’s heartworm condition. And when people learned about their story, many kind persons sent over food and supplies for them.
The two are now together again, and hopefully, they will never be set apart ever again.
